Francisco Garcia

Francisco Garcia I originate from the city of Quetzaltenango, located in the highlands of Guatemala, a region marked by geography and history and home to a mix of cultures and traditions. It is within this complex environment where I find the inspiration for my work, using metaphorical images and personal experiences as the basis of my discourse.

The technique I use is watercolor as its fluidity and transparency allows me to create compositions with bold and bright colours – a major part of my work. My paintings have as a chromatic reference the fabrics and weavings of the indigenous cultures of Guatemala, which are bright and colourful and often depict symbols and images from nature.

Thematically my work is related to the mystical imagery present in the indigenous highland culture of Guatemala which is strongly connected to nature – clouds and birds are particularly important as they are part of the cosmovision of the local cultures.
