She studied at Central, Wimbledon and Chelsea Schools of Art and, exhibiting regularly in London, her work is held in a number of private collections in USA, Germany, Sweden and Australia. Shown here are works inspired by a series of Chinese poems describing twelve years in the life of a Han Chinese upper class woman abducted by Mongols in the third century and her eventual ransom and return to China. The initial responses to the poems (Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute: the Story of Wen Chi) take the form of collages from which paintings are made.

Encompassing painting, sculpture, carpentry, drawing, Paul Edmonds’ work is concerned with the loss of contact with Nature and taps in to it from a spiritual viewpoint and attempts to illustrate this throughout his works. Harmony is attained between himself and Nature: a unity between himself and the rest of the world. Realising an importance of replicating and reminding upon, a vibration of a given mood, or feeling. Edmonds’ commercial artwork spanned the United Kingdom and extended in to Europe, designing and creating original themed displays utilizing a range of graphical and technical processes.

After gaining influence from her experiences in the West Indies, Hewitt returned to England where she excelled in the arts, and further went on to study painting at Turnbridge Wells Art College in Kent.

After traveling extensively throughout Europe and North Africa, and residing in Spain, Hewitt finally came back to settle in England. She has been heavily involved in the Corporate Art scene, having been commissioned to make artwork for many “blue chip” companies such as British Airways, Nestle, Motorola, Marconi, Mercedes Benz, Citibank, Morgan Stanley, Pfizer and others.

She has also exhibited her work at solo shows in London and around England. Currently, feeling the need to challenge herself and to take her painting in new directions, Hewitt continues to experiment with different themes and concepts while continuing to pursue her corporate imagery.’

Jill Tegan Doherty is a graduate from Chelsea College of Art and Design and currently a practicing artist based in London. In her work Jill actively engages with the surrealist tradition, her work serves as an investigation into the subconscious, in which she transposes the fleeting imagery that exists at the periphery of human imagination.

Her work explores these musings making her imagery visible to the collective human consciousness. Her morphing of various species together prompts certain thought processes in the viewer, although what is culminated is an imagined form, the use of familiar subject matter forces a certain involuntary recollection. This recollection can lead to a more intense and intimate reaction to the imagery as it can trigger personal memories and allows the viewer to relate to the imagery thrust upon them. There is an underlying haunting quality to the work, a certain hardship of social interaction and an air of confusion and entrapment. Each individual painting is riddled with subtle clues, forming suggestions to induce the mind into a certain ideation. Doherty toys with this open catalyst of deliberation in the viewer, tempting them to climb deeper into the unraveling knots of the symbolism.

She likes to provoke the onlooker’s own subconscious with her use of unnerving imagery of disfigurement and biomorphic representations of human form. Dipping into this strange realm in which representation and fantasy meld, this artist emerges with unsettling images of a fragile and rare beauty.

Luby’s paintings are a journey through landscapes and memory. They are inspired by places and things and expressed on extremely different layers. From landscape-scale colours and forms to the microscopic details and texture, these layers are enframed so that, on looking closer, the eye discovers different communities of paintings which speak for themselves within the one work.

Luby uses a wide variety of materials which can take on a life of their own so that all the marks, colours and textures become significant. Her art encompass movement, change and accident, which happen organically alongside the idea and informing the understanding of the piece. Childhood and memory play a large part in her work. Luby grew up in the grounds of Powys and Chirk Castles in Wales, UK and moved to New York State before returning to the UK in Shropshire, England. After Shrewsbury Art School she got a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Staffordshire University in 1997. After a few years in Manchester working and exhibiting with a group of artists and doing community artwork she moved back to Shropshire to set up a studio and has been painting ever since. Luby has exhibited at the original Turner prize for British landscape painters at The Mall Galleries in London 2001, many local and regional galleries, Birmingham Artfest in 03 & 04; the Art of England Show’s in 06 & 07, has featured on the ITV television show A Brush With Fame; designs and delivers community art workshops for local authorities, charities and private companies.

Luby has been an Artist in Residence at New College, Telford for three years now and teaches Fine Art part time at a local prestigious Independent School. Luby has had work commissioned by television personalities and private companies in the UK, Hong Kong, Italy, Mexico and New York.

We’re very pleased to introduce Ljubinka Kovacevic-Mimovic to you. Ljubinka was born in Belgrade in 1952 . She moved to England in 1967 and studied at Starbridge Art College. These formative years had a major impact on her artistic development and she continued to study art at the Academy of Applied Arts in Belgrade from1973-1978. Ljubunka taught Art in Belgrade for four years, before moving back to London. Starting from a traditional form of painting, through the years of homage’s to old masters and familiar subject matter, she began to depart from the targeted expression of her criteria to a different realm of values. Maintaining the criteria only on a subconscious level, her work began to engage in bridging the waves, the spaces and emotions of contemporary and future sensations.
