Introducing Katharina Kubrick
Katharina Kubrick comes from a very artistic family: opera singer grandparents, film director father and artist mother. She started drawing in childhood, inspired and encouraged by her successful mother, Christiane Kubrick, who is a well renowned painter. After leaving art college– described as a largely disappointing experience – she worked in the film industry for ten years as a location photographer, prop designer and art director on the sets of feature films and commercials. Following the births of her three sons, she resumed painting part time, and she found great satisfaction in creating artworks that celebrate the beauty of ordinary things around her. “I am bizarrely attracted to light and glass and reflective surfaces and the many challenges they present.” “My heroes and inspirations include Klaas van Heda, Willem Kalf, Chardin, Andrew Wyeth, and Janet Fish to name only a very few.”
